STEM4 one step closer to meeting region’s needs

UW Bothell and Cascadia College will increase the number of STEM students when a new building opens on campus. A competition to reward big ideas results in a prototype that can help asthmatics breathe better all around. Dr. Pierre Mourad and Dr. Pietro Paparella with the UW Bothell School of STEM were awarded first place in the NW Innovation Resource Center’s Amazon Catalyst Competition in the city of Everett.

Makerspace prints 3D hearts for biology lab

Ocean noise and animal bioacoustics research and mentoring

As a researcher and associate professor of mechanical engineering, Dr. Shima Abadi focuses on acoustical signal processing with an emphasis on ocean noise and animal bioacoustics. Dr. Abadi integrates her research with outreach, teaching, and curriculum development to broaden participation of underrepresented groups, engage undergraduate students in research, and train graduate students to be the next generation of researchers in her field.
