Rachel Scherr, Associate Professor

Biography
Dr. Scherr earned her Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Washington in 2001 and has taught and conducted research at the Evergreen State College, the University of Maryland, and Seattle Pacific University. She is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, cited for foundational research into energy learning and representations, application of video analysis methods to study physics classrooms, and physics education research community leadership.
Research
Dr. Scherr conducts research in the teaching and learning of physics as well as physics disciplinary culture and practices. Her research on the teaching and learning of energy led to new teaching tools, new research methodologies, and new theoretical perspectives on physics learning. Her current work includes teaching modern physics using a community agreements pedagogy, designing introductory physics labs that focus on experimental skills, and supporting other faculty to gain skills and experience with evidence-based teaching strategies.
