Autumn 2025 Quarterly Crossroads
The Quarterly Crossroads is a quarterly newsletter of leadership updates, school highlights, student stories, news and upcoming events for the School of STEM.

This quarter, UW Bothell celebrates an all-time high enrollment of 6,361 undergraduate and graduate students — the largest in our 35+ year history. 26% of current students who have declared majors or are in graduate programs are in the School of STEM. It’s inspiring to see so many students choosing STEM pathways.
We launched a new GROW INTO STEM seminar series this quarter to help students know they belong and hear from industry professionals how they navigated their career path.
This December marks one year since I’ve had the honor of serving as dean. Over the past year, I’ve focused on strengthening our STEM community: listening, learning, prioritizing and investing in what matters most. As I set a vision for the future, I see UW Bothell as the premiere destination for STEM-interested students in Washington state. I’m committed to continuing to expand partnerships, supporting faculty and staff to thrive in their roles and creating opportunities to help our students change their lives.
This Oct. we hosted the second annual STEM Soiree and loved having our alumni join us this year. It was extra special as we recognized recent Alumna Carol Miu (Physics, ‘25) for establishing the Miu Endowment for Physics in honor of her father.
In this newsletter, you’ll discover stories like Carol’s and many other ways we engage our community, research discoveries that help save lives, improvements to accessible audio screening, new grant funding to support physics lab redesigns nationwide, and summer undergraduate research experiences.
Happy Holidays to everyone from the School of STEM!
– Jennifer McLoud-Mann, dean and professor
