Biography
Dr. Michele Boeing Price is passionate about getting outdoors and fascinated by nearly all organisms; however, she has an inordinate fondness for the six-legged spineless wonders that roam this earth: the insects! Dr. Price earned her Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2009. She joined the biology faculty at the University of Washington-Bothell in 2016 and prior to joining UWB, she was an assistant teaching professor at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Department of Biology Teaching & Learning and assistant professor at Lewis-Clark State College Division of Natural Sciences in Lewiston, Idaho.
At the University of Washington-Bothell, she teaches courses in which students explore the interplay between form and function of both invertebrates and vertebrate animals. She aims to create hands-on learning experiences in a challenging yet inclusive learning environment to help students understand and connect to the natural world.
Research
Dr. Price’s research focus is on the systematics of Coleoptera, particularly, beetles belonging to the families Endomychidae (handsome fungus beetles) & Nitidulidae (sap beetles). She is especially interested in analyzing species morphology, distributions, natural histories (e.g. habitat, plant associations), and phylogenetics to help reveal the ecologic and evolutionary processes that have shaped current biodiversity.
Dr. Price strongly encourages student involvement in research as a hands-on, tactile teaching tool. At the University of Washington-Bothell she has mentored students with research projects related to exploring the invertebrate communities within the restored UWB/CC North Creek Wetlands, St. Edward State Park in partnership with the UWB Environmental Education Research Center (EERC), and other regions of the Pacific Northwest.
