When Mathematics senior Layan Arrabi traveled to Rwanda as part of a study abroad program, she didn’t expect to see such a focus on entrepreneurship.

Comprised of students from UW and various African countries, students in the program had the opportunity to learn about Rwanda’s leadership and nation building.

For Arrabi, meeting with Rwandan business owners and organizations gave insight into the importance of entrepreneurship within the culture.

“This cultural push for entrepreneurship ties to the government’s push for economic development and growth, as opposed to, say, liberal democracy,” she said.
