ARC Event Accessibility Considerations

The ARC is committed to making events as accessible as possible to our campus community. Please see below for a list of accessibility considerations.

A/V

  • Assisted listening devices: the ARC event space is equipped with assisted listening devices, which are available for attendees to check out during your event. Please see our A/V tech team for check out.
  • Use a microphone: assisted listening devices are only helpful when your event uses amplified sound, such as a microphone. Even if your event is more intimate, consider requesting (and using) a microphone for announcements, speakers, audience questions, etc.
  • Use subtitles: when selecting a video for your event, use a version that has subtitles available. Let our A/V tech team know you would like the subtitles on.
  • Presentations: when creating presentation materials, consider using high contrast text/background and having presentation materials available in alternate/large print format; avoid flashing/strobing animations.

Layout

  • Stage ramp: if using a stage for your event, consider requesting our stage ramp in addition to stairs. Our event team can work with you to create a layout that accommodates the space needed for our stage ramp.
  • Row seating: if using theater-style seating, consider leaving space in some rows for wheelchair seating.
  • Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART): if bringing in CART service, let us know so we can designate space in your layout. To schedule CART, contact uwbdrs@uw.edu (UW Bothell) or disabilities@cascadia.edu (Cascadia).
  • Sign language interpretation: if using a sign language interpreter, let us know so we can designate space in your layout. To schedule sign language interpretation, contact uwbdrs@uw.edu (UW Bothell) or disabilities@cascadia.edu (Cascadia).

Additional

  • Scent-free: our custodial team uses scent-free cleaners. Encourage attendees to avoid strongly-scented perfumes and colognes.
  • Elevator: our elevator is located in the northwest corner of the ARC. Consider directing attendees to our stairs and our elevator when providing directions or building information.
  • All-gender restrooms: we have four all-gender restrooms in the ARC. One on the second floor (near event space), one on the first floor, and two on the lower level. Please feel free to direct attendees to where additional all-gender restrooms are located.
  • Marketing: Include institutional equal opportunity statement on event flyers:
    • Cascadia: To request reasonable accommodation to participate in this event, contact Disability Support Services at 425-352-8128.
    • UW Bothell: The University of Washington is committed to providing access, equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation in its services, programs, activities, education and employment for individuals with disabilities. To request disability accommodations contact Disability Resources for Students at 425.352.5307 (Phone & Relay), FAX 425.352.5114, uwbdrs@uw.edu. It would be best if requests are made 10 days prior to the event.
