Experiential Learning Course Support Funds
The Office of Connected Learning offers small grants (up to $500 per quarter) to faculty and staff to support course-based experiential learning for UW Bothell students. These grants are intended to defray costs associated with implementing community-engaged learning, undergraduate research, and/or globally engaged learning experiences.
All faculty and staff instructors are eligible to apply. When funding is limited, priority will be given to courses that engage students early in their college careers (i.e., courses at the 100- and 200-level or programs that serve pre-major students).
Application process
Applications will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis each quarter. Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Eligible Expenses
Funds must further course learning outcomes and be closely tied to the high-impact practices being implemented (CELR, global learning, undergraduate research).
Please note that at this time we can only cover expenses that can be directly paid for by the faculty member’s school (Direct Purchasing via Workday Catalogue, ProCard, etc.). We cannot process reimbursements. All spending must comply with your local school purchasing policies.
Funds for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 academic year must be spent by May 1, 2027.
Allowable expenses:
- Materials, supplies, software, equipment, or subscriptions that directly support research projects, community partner collaborations, or globally engaged learning
- Printing costs for posters and flyers
- Reservation fees for public exhibits or events
- Entry fees associated with visiting museums, community partner sites, etc.
- Registration fees for students attending a conference or event (excluding transportation)
- Invoices less than $500 that can be paid with a ProCard, including “speaker fees” from businesses or an organization (excludes vendors that hold UW contracts)
- One-time honorariums for external guest speakers/facilitators (must have an SSN and must be paid as individuals, not as an organization or business representative). Cannot be a UW Employee or Student.
Non-allowable expenses:
- Food
- Scholarships, awards, gifts or other prizes
- Stipends to cover living expenses
- Faculty course release time
- Reimbursement of mileage for travel to service sites (faculty may consider using the Community Van program in lieu of having students drive separately)
