Global Scholars Application Process

UW Bothell students can apply to Global Scholars each Autumn Quarter. Students who apply after the priority deadline will be considered if all cohort spaces have not been filled. The Global Scholars Program expects to accept 20-30 students each year. For the 2026 cohort, we are offering a $500 stipend upon successfully completing the program.

Components

The online application asks you to share information about you and your background, and respond to three essay prompts. It is estimated to take 60 min to complete.

All applicants will be required to participate in a 30-minute, in person small group interview, where you’ll have the opportunity to share more about your interests, experiences, and goals with program directors and your peers. These conversations help the Global Scholars team get to know you better.

  1. Why do you want to join this program? In what ways does Global Scholars align with your interests and aspirations? We want to hear about your background and experiences, your curiosity about global citizenship and global engagement, as well as specific ideas about how you think the program will benefit and challenge you. (300-500 words)
  2. Describe an experience that challenged or changed you—something that helped you learn about yourself, others, or an issue in the world. How might your experience of learning from different perspectives help you build connections and learn with others in the Global Scholars cohort? (200-300 words)
  3. What challenges or barriers have you encountered in pursuing a global experience? (100-200 words)

You will be selected based on the following criteria:

  1. Perceived effort in application responses. When writing the essays, we are expecting responses that are specific, authentic, and personal, written by you in your own voice. Generic or vague responses written by ChatGPT or another AI tool will not be accepted.
  2. Interest in the topics of global citizenship and global engagement.
  3. Curiosity and cultural humility: willingness to learn about self and other cultures and engage positively with diverse others.
  4. Potential impact of program involvement on self and the community. impact of program involvement on self and the community.
