Termination

Termination refers to an action taken on your SEVIS record. Essentially, it marks the end of your F-1 status for a specific reason.

Common reasons for termination

This is only an explanation of the most common reasons. If you are terminated for anything else, an explanation will be sent to you.

Authorized Early Withdrawal

Used to show that you have requested a break in your studies. This is often used when you can no longer maintain enrollment due to an emergency situation. You will have 15 days to leave the US from the date of termination.

Change of Status Approved

Used when you have been approved for another immigrant or non-immigrant status in the US. You are required to send ISS proof of your new status before the termination happens. You will not have to leave the US. After termination, you will follow all rules & regulations for your new status.

Expulsion

Used when a student has been expelled from their program of study. The student will be advised to leave the US immediately.

Failure to Enroll

Used when a student fails to enroll for the next expected quarter. The student will be advised to leave the US immediately.

No Show

Used when a new student (not a transfer student) enters the US but fails to report to ISS. The student will be advised to leave the US immediately.

Transfer Student No Show

Used when a new transfer student fails to report to ISS. The student will be advised to leave the US immediately.

Unauthorized Drop Below Full Course

Used when a student is not enrolled in a full course of study and has not submitted a Reduced Course Load request. The student will be advised to leave the US immediately.

Unauthorized Employment

Used when ISS receives written proof of employment and the student does not have employment authorization for all or part of that employment. The student will be advised to leave the US immediately.

Unauthorized Withdrawal

Used when a student withdraws from school in the middle of a term without approval from ISS. The student will be advised to leave the US immediately.
