Changes to Duration of Status:

We are aware of the final published rule to eliminate duration of status. We encourage your patience while we review the details of the document and incorporate the changes.

  • ISS will be updating this site over the next 60 days until the new rule goes into effect on 09/15/2026.
  • ISS will email specific populations of students with the necessary updates that apply to them.
  • If you want to see general updates and what to expect, please visit this page hosted by UW Seattle’s ISS.
    • You can direct specific questions to uwbintl@uw.edu.
    • Do not message UW Seattle with your questions if you’re a Bothell student.

Appointments

Zoom and phone appointments are available for all F-1 students. If you’re unable to make an appointment, please email uwbintl@uw.edu and we will make one for you.

Walk-in Advising

Check in at the Summit Hall Enrollment Services desk (lower level), M – F, 9am – 4pm . If they cannot answer your question directly, they will reach out to an available ISS advisor.

Walk-ins may be asked to make an appointment if the question cannot be resolved within 10 minutes.

Requests

All F-1 student requests must be made through the International Student Portal.

An ISS advisor will review your request within 3 business days, and it will be processed within 7 – 10 business days. If there are any issues, we will contact you via your UW email. We do not accept expedite requests. Requests can be denied if you submit them too late.

Requests requiring academic approval are not received by ISS until approved by your academic advisor. Please respect their workload and give them 3 – 5 days to process the academic approval.

Know your rights

The ACLU provides a resource to help you understand your rights in the US. Please have this information in mind in case you’re ever stopped or questioned about your immigration status.

Tri-campus resources

If you’re looking for specific international information or resources within the tri-campus, consider the UW Global Community page.
