Academic Year 2021-22

The UW Bothell Office of Connected Learning (OCL), formed in 2020, includes the following: Global Initiatives, Community-Engaged Learning and Research (CELR), Undergraduate Research and Creative Practice, Collaboratory (formerly the Makerspace), and the Environmental Education and Research Center at St. Edwards State Park.

The OCL is committed to access and success for all students by promoting and supporting a range of co-curricular applied experiences that further cross-disciplinary learning, career connections, and contributions to a more just and equitable community on and off campus.

OCL course support funding is intended to directly facilitate activities related to developing, implementing or expanding curricular high impact practice (HIPs) experiences for UW Bothell students.

Criteria

For the 2021-22 academic year, applicants may request up to $500 per quarter for regional, national, or global projects in line with the Lumina Foundation’s categorization of HIPs into campus-based and community-engaged HIPs listed below. More thorough explanation and definitions of HIP can be found on the AACU website.

Preference will be given to projects that directly connect to the university’s 2020 strategic priorities of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and cross-disciplinary scholarship. Additional preference will be given to projects that integrate HIPs in the first or second year, pre-major experience, and 100 and 200 level courses.

Community-Engaged HIPs

  • Learning communities

  • Research with faculty

  • Culminating senior experience or capstone

  • Service learning courses involving a community-engaged project

  • Internship or field experience

  • Study abroad and global learning courses

Previous expense examples include: rental fee for a theater space at a community partner site, UCAR expense, partner invoice, undergraduate or graduate student hire support, materials to support projects, attending a conference, travel funds to attend a partner meeting, online collaboration tool.

Grant Details

  • A total of $22,500 is available to be awarded for the FY ’22 academic year.

  • Funding requests are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis and awarded based on funding availability. UW Bothell faculty members of all career tracks (full- and part-time) and staff who are affiliated faculty are eligible to receive these support grants.

  • Only one grant will be awarded per course.

  • Funding must be spent by the end of the fiscal year and conform to guidelines for the use of state funds. NOTE: Purchase of food is prohibited. Purchase of gifts is prohibited.

  • FY’22 has closed and funding is unavailable at this time.
  • Requests will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and you will receive a response from staff in the Office of Connected Learning within two weeks.
