It is that time of year again and our Digital Learning team is happy to invite you to stop by our offices during the first week of class for our famous Canvas, Coffee, and Cookies!
We will have some good dark coffee or tea, some excellent cookies, and we can help with Canvas. We will be in our offices in LBA – 204 from 9 am to 4 pm from September 26th to the 30th and we look forward to your visit!
Along with our daily Zoom office hours, this quarter we will be offering some evening office hours as well from 7 to 8 pm on 9/19, 9/22, 9/27, and 9/29.

- Check out Canvas New Quizzes. It is currently an option in Canvas that will likely become permanent in the near future.
- Panopto automatic captions are now turned on by default
- Access instructions on how to record your lecture from the podium computer using Panopto.
- Access instructions about how to use the document camera in classrooms.
- Teaching Online 101 will be offered Oct 24th – Dec 2nd. Learn more and sign up.

Featuring our amazing faculty: Dr. Chris Wade
Our colleague in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Dr. Chis Wade, makes amazing videos.
He makes them for his classes and often other faculty use them in their courses. He is very serious about them as is evidenced by his YouTube Channel.

Canvas, Coffee & Cookies – March 28th to April 1st
Stop by our offices in LBA-204E to get your questions answered about teaching and learning, any time from 9am to 4pm during the first week of the quarter. Stop by for our gourmet coffee, hot chocolate or tea. (Disclaimer: We hope to offer hot drinks and cookies; we will follow campus COVID guidance.)
Week of Video – April 4th – April 8th
This week we will look at all things video. We will explore how to create videos using various applications/devices and places to share videos online. If you have questions about making videos, you can register and join us on Zoom from 11am to noon, April 4th through the 8th. See daily events on our UWB IT Events page.

There are so many options for creating video – from your phone to more traditional tools. Come learn about the options you have. - Tuesday, April 5th, 11am – Panopto
Learn the basics of Panopto or how to add quizzes to videos you have already created. - Wednesday, April 6th, 11am – Learning Glass
Learn how to record educational videos using Learning Glass, a simple technology that allows you to quickly create short, concise visual lessons with minimal preparations. - Thursday, April 7th, 11am – YouTube
Do you know that YouTube is a powerful place to organize and share resources? Come learn how to use YouTube! - Friday, April 8th, 11am – Keynote Live Video on Macs
For Mac users, a new feature in Keynote allows you to make some amazing videos. We will show you how.

Learn More: Learning Glass
We are fortunate to have a Learning Glass lightboard right here on campus available for faculty and staff to use! Learning Glass is a simple technology that allows you to quickly create short, concise visual lessons with minimal preparations. Here are some examples of what your colleagues are creating with it!
Staff updates: Meet Julie Scales
Julie Scales is our new Interim Manager. She comes to us from the Learning Experience team at UW Continuum College where she developed courses for multiple modalities and led DEI learning and engagement efforts. Julie also brings 15 years’ experience teaching adult English Language Learners within the university setting. She holds a Masters Degree (MATESOL) from UW Seattle. Outside of work, you’re likely to find her spending time with friends and family, hiking, or walking her tireless Australian Shepard, Tango.
