Orientation Leaders

Orientation Leaders

Our Orientation Leaders  are here  to help you navigate and direct you to the many resources on campus that are there to ease the path to your success. You'll meet many of them during your orientation session, and the others will be at the front Welcome Desk in UW1 throughout the year to help guide you and answer any question you might have. Stop by to say hi and get to know the friendly faces who are here to help you.

Why did you choose UW Bothell?

I chose UW Bothell because of the small and diverse community which makes it really easy to connect with your professor and make new friends.

Never be afraid to ask for help. UWB is a diverse community where everyone is welcome and there are so many resources UWB offers to support new students, transfer students, and students of color.

Briahna Koger - she/they

  • Email: otp@uw.edu

  • Year: Senior

  • Major: Biology

  • Clubs/Orgs: Biology Club,

Bothell Women in Science and Engineering

(BWiSE), Undergraduate Research (with Dr. Keya Sen)

  • Hometown: Mill Creek, Washington

Why did you choose UWB?

To be honest, I had missed the application deadline for UW Seattle, so I then applied here directly to the Biology Major in hope that I’d get in. Well, fast forward a year later, and I’m ecstatic that I chose this campus, especially since I live so close to it! I value the smaller community here - I feel like I can connect with my professors, the smaller campus layout isn’t as overwhelming as a bigger university, and I feel like there’s more opportunities here for me to get involved. This campus just feels like a second home to me now. It’s my whole life. I’ll cherish the time I’ve spent here forever.

What do you enjoy most about being an Orientation Leader?

When I first signed up for this job, I had no clue what I’d be doing. When I started to learn more and more about what I’d actually be doing, it scared me greatly. This job has been something that challenges me and that’s what I enjoy the most about it! It’s way out of my comfort zone. However, I’ve felt myself growing and developing as a person, figuring out who I really am, and that is all thanks to the help of my generous coworkers and supervisors. I hope that I can inspire the new students I meet during the orientation process to undertake this scary journey with me. It’s worth it.

Tamika Nastali - she/her

  • Email: otp@uw.edu

  • Year: Senior

  • Major: Society, Ethics and human behavior

  •  Clubs/Orgs: OTP

  • Hometown: Coupeville, Washington

Why did you choose UWB?

I really like the location and how close I am to places like Woodinville, Lynnwood and Seattle. I also really like the smaller and more familiar class sizes. I felt I would get a more personal experience here than at larger campuses and plus, everything is so close together so it’s pretty easy to get around quickly!

What do you enjoy most about being an Orientation Leader?

I consider myself a people-person so I really enjoy meeting and working with groups of new people! And I love getting to be the first person new students meet and the one to introduce them to the campus!

Stephen Nguyen - he/him

  • Email: otp@uw.edu

  • Year: Senior

  • Major:  Media and Communication Studies

with a minor in Business Administration

  •  Clubs/Orgs: Cru, VSA, Diversity Center, OTP,

          Global Scholars

  • Hometown: Kirkland, Washington

Why did you choose UWB?

I chose UWB, not only because I want to be a part of the UW landscape, but also out of recommendation from my sister (class of 2016 UW graduate) who spoke highly of transportation convenience, as well as smaller class sizes and more dynamic connections with faculty. Plus, it was very convenient for me to transition into the university lifestyle since I was already starting college at Cascadia.

What do you enjoy most about being an orientation leader?

I am so looking forward to continuing building my network by meeting new people, as well as continuing to grow more involved on-campus. Also, it feels so poetic that I am coming full-circle with my UW Bothell experience—starting out as a first-year introduced on campus by an OL, to becoming an OL in my final year introducing people on campus.

Bridget Paik -  she/her

  • Email: otp@uw.edu

  • Year:

  • Major: Mathematics

  •  Clubs/Orgs: OTP, UWB Math Society

  • Hometown: Busan, Korea

Why did you choose UWB?

I chose UWB because of the education program. The quality of the classes are as great as UW Seattle but the class sizes are smaller, which means there are more resources available for students. I also wanted to come to UWB because the campus is beautiful and the people on campus are very kind and supportive, and I really value the positive and open environment that I found here.

What do you enjoy most about being an orientation leader?

I enjoy public speaking and this job has allowed me to be more comfortable with it. I also enjoy being able meet many new people through this opportunity.

Gurleen Sahota - she/her

  • Year: Sophmore

  • Major: Computer Science Engineering

  •  Clubs/Orgs: OTP, Child Rights and You (CRY)

  • Hometown: Snohomish, Washington

Why did you choose UWB?

I chose UWB because I wanted to take advantage of the benefits of a small campus community with the resources of a world-renowned research university. The smaller campus allowed me to get to better know my professors and peers,  and it feels like home since I live close to the campus.

What do you enjoy most about being an orientation leader?

Everything! I love meeting new people and I am an extrovert who loves working and helping new people. Through being an orientation leader, I have met some the most amazing people. Shout-out to my friends (orientation co-workers) for not only being an amazing group of people, but for being friends that turned into family.
