Recap & July Highlights
EnCAP
Recently, we had our third summer of the Environmental Career Preparedness Program (EnCAP) take place at the EERC. Over three weeks, participants explored topics including GIS mapping, restoration of ecology, insect biodiversity, and more. We’re so grateful for the University of Washington Bothell faculty and staff who helped in preparing the next generation of environmental leaders!
July Nature Walk
We have made it halfway through the Nature Walk Series already! Over twenty people attended on a gorgeous summer day. Thank you to everyone who showed up, and we look forward to seeing you next month on August 15th from 10am – 12pm!
Volunteer Work Party at Saint Edward State Park
Several volunteers supported the removal of English Holly and Laurel by the Plateau Trail. Volunteers removed the tags on the plants to count and track the progress of their work. This was a great day filled with community and hands-on learning. Thank you to everyone who showed up, and we look forward to seeing you next month on August 23rd from 10am – 1pm!
Explore the Park After Dark Event
Thank you to those who came out for our event after dark! The event consisted of looking for traces of owls including finding multiple feathers and pellets. We had an amazing turnout of over 15 people and had such a blast learning about the wildlife that calls Saint Edward State Park home.

Upcoming Events in August (& Beyond!)
Volunteer Work Party at Saint Edward State Park
📅 Date & Time: August 23, 2026 | 10:00am
📍 Location: EERC Classroom, 14445 Juanita Dr NE Kenmore, WA 98028 – Volunteers can use free parking passes for the duration of their service.
Join us for a day of stewardship and discovery at Saint Edwards State Park, where we will be continuing where we worked on removing English Holly and Cherry Laurel last month. All ages 8+ are welcome; no experience needed. Please dress for the weather we work rain or shine! Register for the work party for free right here.
What to bring (required):
- Rain Jacket
- Closed toe shoes
- Water
- Hand pruners or loppers (we have some but could always use more)
- Gardening Gloves (we will provide extra if you do not have your own)
Summer Nature Walk Series August Event
📅 Date & Time: August 15, 2026 | 10:00am
📍 Location: Meet at EERC Classroom in Saint Edward State Park (14445 Juanita Dr Kenmore)
Join us for our second to last nature walk of the series! These walks are open to everyone (including leashed pets) and are co-led by Washington State Parks and CoSEE staff. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the park, ongoing restoration and research, and the many plants and animals that call the forest home. Register for the nature walk for free right here.
Native Plant Garden Art Event
📅 Date & Time: August 12, 2026 | 1:00pm
📍 Location: Meet at EERC Classroom in Saint Edward State Park (14445 Juanita Dr Kenmore)
Join us for a fun, hands-on community event as we bring color to the Native Plant Garden! Help paint the bricks that line the garden’s pollinator section while learning about the history of the garden and the restoration efforts that have transformed the space. All ages are welcome, let’s create a vibrant, welcoming space for the community. Register for the art event for free right here.
Examining Evidence: Wildlife in Your Neighborhood
📅 Date & Time: August 13, 2026 | 5:30pm
📍 Location: Meet at EERC Classroom in Saint Edward State Park (14445 Juanita Dr Kenmore)
Join us for a family-friendly evening of wildlife exploration at Saint Edwards State Park. We will look at real trail camera images of wildlife, create your own animal track mold to take home, and more! All ages 8+ are welcome; no experience is needed. Be sure to wear close-toed shoes, and space is limited, so tickets are required! Register for the wildlife event for free right here.
Outdoor Storytime Event
📅 Date & Time: August 22, 2026 | 1:30pm
📍 Location: Meet at EERC Classroom in Saint Edward State Park (14445 Juanita Dr Kenmore)
Join us for Outdoor Storytime to learn how simple adaptations allow books to be more interactive and inclusive for all ages. There will be a gallery walk of our currently adapted books, crafts and coloring, and a couple of live story times! Everyone is welcome, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Engineering with Nature: Boat Building
📅 Date & Time: August 28,2026 | 5:30pm
📍 Location: Meet at EERC Classroom in Saint Edward State Park (14445 Juanita Dr Kenmore)
Join us for an enjoyable hands-on engineering adventure inspired by the book Iggy Peck, Architect! Young engineers and their families will design and build boats using natural and recycled materials, then test their creations to see how well they float. All ages 5+ are welcome; no experience required. All materials will be provided! Register for the boat building event for free right here.
Other Community Events
- Camps 2026. This summer, the Pacific Science Center will be holding three weeks of camps in the EERC classroom! We are so grateful and excited for this partnership. Check out the Camps 2026 website to register and for more information.
- At Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park, they are putting on multiple events throughout August including Lakeside Lectures and more. All of these events require pre-registration, check out the Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park website to register and learn more about these upcoming events.
- There are many events taking place at Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance throughout August including an ongoing Finn Hill Trails Challenge and a Native Plant Walk. They are also putting on DennyFest a free annual community festival on August 15! To learn more about these exciting events, check out the Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance calendar! If you want to join the Finn Hill Trails Challenge, register here!
- Saint Edward State Park has a Junior Ranger program for this upcoming summer that entails multiple events. One of the upcoming events is a Leave No Trace event on August 5. They are also hosting a summer concert series put on by the City of Kenmore. Check out Saint Edward State Parks website to learn more about their upcoming events in August!
- Over at The Lodge they are having a range of events through August and beyond. This includes live music events, afternoon tea, yoga, and more. These events happen throughout the week. If you are interested in learning more about the dates and further information about these events check out the Lodge’s website!

The Environmental Education and Research Center (EERC) Classroom at Saint Edward State Park (Equipped with flexible seating, whiteboards, projector, Wi-Fi, and a kitchenette) is now available for reservation through the UW Bothell 25Live system.
Hours & Location:
- Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
- 14445 Juanita Drive NE, Kenmore, WA 98028
Reservation Options:
- Half-Day: 9:00am – 1:00pm or 1:00pm – 5:00pm
- Full-Day: 9:00am – 5:00pm
- Outside reservation hours: $100/hour additional fee
Pricing Structure:
- Community Partners: $250 (Half-Day) | $500 (Full-Day)
- Corporate Partners: $500 (Half-Day) | $1,000 (Full-Day)
- UW Bothell Partners: $350 (Half-Day) | $700 (Full-Day)
