Special Internships Projects
Our newest internship pathway offers unique opportunities that grow out of CoSEE’s collaborations with community and partner organizations. These internships don’t always follow our typical pathways; they may have different timelines, offer paid options, or focus on more specialized areas of work.
Term Two opportunities
Support the Campus Farm
Intern supports the UW Bothell/Cascadia College Campus Farm. The intern helps coordinate farm operations and programming to foster campus engagement in sustainability, gardening, and outdoor learning experiences.
Work on Salmon in Schools
Interns will primarily support Trout Unlimited’s Salmon in the Classroom program, with additional opportunities in public environmental education and volunteer stewardship. The goal is to provide interns with hands-on experience in environmental education, salmon conservation, community engagement, and habitat restoration.
Mapping Invasives at FHNA
Intern assists in mapping areas of invasive plant infestation in Juanita Woodlands Park, surveying and mapping the western portion of the park, including Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance (FHNA) stewardship work. The intern would have the opportunity to share and interpret this map as well as write a report on the findings and suggestions they have for future restoration work.
Plan Alyssa Burnett Center Events
Intern helps develop and plan Alyssa Burnett Center events from a range of environmental topics. The intern will also help lead these events that are centered around building community and ecological knowledge and wonder. Previous events include: mushroom walks, nature walks, making bird feeders, and many more.
Environmental Coalition & Community Partnership
Intern coordinates environmental education organization events for a couple of months and makes a booklet or webpage to go along with each event. The intern supports with newsletter writing as well as general assistance with planning, promoting, and leading environmental education events.
Past projects
Camp Smore environmental education support
Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park hosts Camp S’mores, an overnight outdoor adventure for about 75 families. An intern will help plan and lead activities including art projects, guided hikes, and introductory paddleboarding or kayaking sessions. The intern works closely with the event committee to design the full schedule for the July 25–26 event.
City of Kenmore tree inventory
Interns collaborate with the City of Kenmore to update the public tree inventory by identifying species, documenting tree health, and collecting location data using GIS tools. The project provides hands-on fieldwork in urban forestry for students with backgrounds in mapping, GIS, and basic tree or plant biology.
