Mary Gates Research Scholarships

Funding in the amount of $2,000 per quarter ($4,000 total), awarded to full-time UW undergraduate students pursuing a research project with a UW faculty mentor. International students are welcome to apply.

UWB Founder’s Fellow Research Scholarship
Deadlines: December
Multiple $1,500 scholarships available for undergraduate research. The purpose of these awards is to encourage and recognize the participation of undergraduate students in research in all disciplines and inter-disciplines represented on the UW Bothell campus. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Award recipients are expected to present at the UW Bothell Undergraduate Research Symposium in May.

Beinecke Scholarship

This highly competitive opportunity offers up to $34,000 for US citizens with exceptional academic ability and financial need to pursue graduate studies in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.

Multidisciplinary International Research Training (MIRT)
Deadline
: Early February
Designed to encourage underrepresented students to pursue careers in biomedical and behavioral research, the program provides support for undergraduate and graduates to do health-related population-based research and training in developing countries.

Research Experience for Undergraduates
Deadlines:
February – April
The National Science Foundation (NSF) funds research sites all over the country and abroad to promote undergraduate engagement in research. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents, have a strong GPA and interest in graduate studies. Students are granted stipends and, in many cases, assistance with housing and travel.

UW Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities

March
A unique opportunity for selected undergraduates to earn full-time, academic credit through immersion in scholarly research with accomplished scholars and peers. Focused on a different topic each summer, the program brings together four faculty and twenty students in plenary, seminar and tutorial-style sessions mid-June through mid-August. Recipients receive $4,000. Awardees must pay tuition for course.

Ronald E. McNair Program

May
A mentoring and professional development program to assist underrepresented students in preparing for doctoral study through involvement in research and scholarly activities. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents, low-income, first-generation, African American, Latino/Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, or Native American, UW students with at least one year of undergraduate study remaining, with a strong interest in pursuing a PhD.

Washington Research Foundation Fellowship

August
$6,000 in funding available for UW juniors and seniors who are working on creative science and engineering research projects under guidance of UW faculty. WRFFs targets undergraduates who have already participated in undergraduate research for at least three quarters and who are working beyond an introductory level in a project that requires creativity and advanced knowledge.

Levinson Emerging Scholars Program

The Levinson Emerging Scholars Program supports talented and highly motivated UW juniors and seniors who want to pursue creative and advanced research in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, bioinformatics, chemistry, genetics, neuroscience, and related fields.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
UW Internal Deadline:
November
Up to 300 scholarships of $7,500 are awarded annually to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering and to foster excellence in these fields. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents with solid research experience and a strong GPA.
