General Scholarships for STEM Students

Berry M. Goldwater Scholarship

Deadline: January

Up to $7,500 offered to college juniors and seniors preparing for a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Applicant must be nominated by college or university, be a US citizen or permanent resident with 3.0 GPA.

Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship

Deadline: January

Provides training and scholarship support to undergraduate students in disciplines including oceanic, environmental, biological, and STEM. Scholarship up to $8,000 and a 10-week full-time internship $650 per week. Applicants must be US citizens, with a 3.0 major GPA.

C.E. Boucher Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: March

$3,000 scholarship to support engineering majors, Applicants must be a resident of Washington or Oregon have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Apply through the thewashboard.org–free profile required.

NASA MUST Scholarship Program

Deadline: March

Scholarships and internships available for undergraduates pursuing degrees in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Minority students are encouraged to apply. Program participants receive a $5,000 stipend to participate in a summer research experience at a NASA center, year-round tutoring from STEM faculty and peers, and up to half tuition. Applicants must be US citizens and maintain a 3.0 GPA

Washington State Opportunity Scholarship

Deadline: March

Applicants must be pursuing an eligible high-demand major in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) or health care-check site to see if your major is eligible. Must be a Washington state resident; minimum 2.75 GPA, and submit free FAFSA application, for consideration of family gross income. Award amounts vary and eligible to increase.

The Knowles Science Teaching Foundation Fellowships

Deadline: October

Teaching Fellowships to individuals committed to teaching science and mathematics in United States high schools. The Teaching Fellows must have received a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in science, engineering or mathematics. Applicants must have no more than one year recorded teaching experience, and U.S citizens or permanent residents.

Department of Defense SMART–Science, Mathematics, And Research for Transformation Scholarship

Deadline: December

Sponsored by the Department of Defense, this program provides full scholarships to students in STEM fields. Program also offers summer internships and mentoring, in exchange for employment with the government after graduation. Applicants must be US citizens at the time of application with 3.0 GPA and must demonstrate a strong interest in working as research scientists or engineers for the Department of Defense.

Science

APS Minority Scholarship

Deadline: February

Scholarship given to first and second year undergraduates majoring, or planning to major, in physics. Applicants must be African-American, Hispanic American or Native American U.S. citizens or permanent residents who plan to or are majoring in physics.

Herschel and Acryl Roman Undergraduate Science Scholarship

Deadline: June

Scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduates at the University of Washington who have an interest in genetics research in the amounts of $2,500-$5,000. Applicants must be a junior or senior during the academic year scholarship is awarded. Awardee also participates in genetics research and must continue to make satisfactory progress toward his or her degree.

Microsoft Technical Scholarships

Deadline: January

Microsoft awards college tuition scholarships each year to encourage students with financial need to pursue studies in Computer Science and related STEM. Applicants must have 3.0 GPA award amount range from partial to full tuition coverage.

Brian Track Computer Science Scholarship

Deadline: March, November

Scholarship designed for future students considering fields in programming, software engineering fields. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. Awards range form $500-$1,000.

Breakthrough Technologies Scholarship

Deadline: April, November

Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 awarded to 3rd or 4th year engineering/science students pursuing a career in Semiconductor and related specialty areas such as Nanotechnology, MEMS, Solar PV, Thin Film, or other advanced technologies. Minimum 2.75 GPA.

Engineering

American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Scholarship Program

Deadline: February

Awards given to promote the profession of naval engineering and to encourage college students to enter the field. Applicants must be either senior or graduate students and US citizens. Award amounts range, $3,000 for undergraduates $4,000 for graduates.

Society of Women Engineers

Deadline: Various

The SWE awards scholarships each year to female undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in accredited programs and wish to pursue a career in engineering, engineering technology or computer science.

AES Engineers Scholarships

Deadline: October

Scholarships in the amount of $500 are awarded to students on criteria not determined on GPA, but rather awarded on the basis of character, as determined by the essays that are submitted. Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study.

National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science (GEM) Fellowship

Deadline: October

The GEM non-profit organization was created to increase minority students who are pursuing graduate degrees in engineering, physical science and natural science disciplines. Applicants must be seniors or graduate students, US citizens at the time of submitting their application with a minimum GPA of 2.8
