General Scholarships

The Xerox Corporation is awarding scholarships of $1,000-$10,000 to minorities who are enrolled in a technical degree. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled full-time in one of the following degrees: Computing & Software Systems, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, Information Managements and more.
UNCF-MERCK Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Awards Deadline: December
The collaboration between UNCF and The Merck Company Foundation is offering these scholarship awards to increase the number of African Americans in the field of biomedical science education and research. Applicants must be full-time students in their junior year with a minimum GPA of 3.3.
Deadline: Late-January
Up to $10,000 to students who are preparing for future business professions. Scholarship is open to all students who are of ethnic minority and are enrolled full-time in any of their undergraduate or graduate years.
MassMutual Scholars Program
Deadline: Early-May
Funded by the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, the MassMutual Scholars Program offers various scholarships of up to $5000 to minority students who will offer diversity to the nation. Students must have at least completed their freshman year and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Even though all majors are welcome, applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the insurance and financial services industry. In addition, they must show leadership and participation in extracurricular activities. A FAFSA application must be completed prior to the application.

A scholarship of up to $5000 is awarded to a minority student who is majoring and has plans for a career in accounting. Scholarship is open to full-time students in their senior year who have at least a 3.3 overall GPA. Applicant must also be a U.S. citizen and show financial need.

Annually, this scholarship offers $2,500 to a minority student from Washington State who demonstrates academic achievement, has a desire to practice public relations and is in financial need. Student must be enrolled as a full-time student in their sophomore or junior year. Open to students who have gone through obstacles to fulfill a personal or academic goal.

The AAJCJ Minority Scholarship Fund helps provide access to higher education for minority students who wish to pursue a career that will enable them to work for social and economic justice. Open to students majoring in human services, health care, education, public affairs or a related field. Student must show strong academic performance along with financial need.
Study Abroad Funding Opportunities
Deadlines: October, March
Funded by US Congress, the Gilman program aims to bring diversity to study abroad. Non-traditional destinations are preferred and programs must be at least 4 weeks. Applicants must be US citizens who are receiving a Federal Pell Grant.
Other Enrichment Programs
Charles B. Rangel Summer Program in International Affairs
Deadline: February
Fully-funded (tuition, room, board, and travel) academic enrichment program for underrepresented students interested in exploring careers in international affairs. Mid-June through July at Howard University in Washington, DC. Participants receive academic credit, network with government agency professionals and gain invaluable experience. Open to freshmen-juniors with 3.2 or higher GPA who are US citizens.
Deadline: May
A mentoring and professional development program to assist underrepresented students in preparing for doctoral study through involvement in research and scholarly activities. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents, low-income, first-generation, African American, Latino/Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, or Native American, UW students with at least one year of undergraduate study remaining, with a strong interest in pursuing a PhD.
Post-Graduate Opportunities
Deadline: October
Minorities in Engineering and Science (GEM) Fellowship The GEM non-profit organization was created to increase minority students who are pursuing graduate degrees in engineering, physical science and natural science disciplines. Applicants must be seniors or graduate students, US citizens at the time of submitting their application with a minimum GPA of 2.8.
Deadline: November
Thirty fellowships of up to $25,000 will be awarded to support up to two years of graduate school. Applicants must be a New American which means that they are a green card holder or naturalized citizen if born abroad; a child of naturalized citizens if born in this country. Student must be a senior or not past their second year in their graduate program. At the time of the application deadline, student must not be 31 years old yet.
Deadline: Mid-November
Through this fellowship, the Ford Foundation is working on increasing the presence of underrepresented minorities in the education systems. This fellowship offers up to $16,000 as annual stipend to students in their senior or graduate year for a course of 3-5 years. Students must be enrolled in a research-based Ph.D. or Sc.D. but have not yet earned a doctoral degree. Individual must be a citizen of the United States by the time of the application deadline.

Funding for graduate studies in foreign affairs and professional preparation to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be US citizens, juniors, seniors or recent graduates, with a 3.2+ GPA.
Designed to recruit, support, and retain individuals of color as public school teachers in the United States, the program provides Fellows $30,000 plus mentoring and training to complete master’s degree programs in education and become excellent educators who ensure student success in high-need schools. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents of color, committed to the goals of the program and graduating with a 3.0 or higher GPA.
