Celia Gorbman, MPH, BS, BA, Lecturer

Celia has served as a faculty member in the School of Nursing and Health Studies since 2024. She earned her MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Washington. She is also a Health Educator at UW School of Medicine, supporting curriculum development and patient-centered learning for first and second year medical students. She developed restorative justice curricula for incarcerated individuals at Monroe Correctional Complex and designed, authored, and delivered a health education program for older patients with knee arthritis through UW’s Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
Her teaching is grounded in equity, empowerment, and student growth. She advocates for upstream healthcare, addressing systemic inequities and the social conditions shaping well-being.
Scholarship
Celia’s current research centers on injury and disease prevention, examining behavioral and social determinants of health through projects on adolescent sunscreen use and seatbelt practices among Washington drivers. Her earlier work explored biological structure, biophysics, and physiology using rhesus macaques. She has a background in computer programming, biostatistics, and statistical modeling, with expertise in analyzing large datasets to inform prevention strategies and advance equity-driven public health interventions.
