Minor Requirements
Students choosing to minor in Global Health will be required to complete a total of 25 credits of coursework.
Students are required to take 15 credits of core courses. While it is recommended that students take these courses in the order listed below, it is not a requirement. Please direct questions about core course availblity to uwbnhs@uw.edu.
- B HLTH 201 Introduction to Global Health (5 credits)
- B HLTH 301 Global Health Practice: Systems, Places, and People (5 credits)
- B HLTH 423 Global Health: Critical Perspectives (5 credits)
Students must also complete at least 10 credits from an approved list of electives. At least 5 credits from two of the three following categories must be completed:
- Core topics in global health
- Populations, regions, & issues
- Skills & applications
Students can claim up to 5 credits of electives for language study or for BHLTH 400: Study Abroad: Health Studies. Credit for other study abroad programs can be proposed through the course petition process (see below).
Students may not have more than 10 credits of overlap between this minor and their chosen major.

Course Petitions
If you are interested in petitioning a course to satisfy a requirement in the Global Health minor, please connect with the Health Studies Academic Advisor, Kaitlin Wolf (wrightkr@uw.edu), to learn more about the process.
Course petitions are reviewed by the Health Studies Curriculum Committee during the Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters (petitions are NOT reviewed during Summer quarter). All petitions must be submitted via the online form (see link below) by the 6th week of the quarter in order to be reviewed and processed prior to the end of the quarter.
Declare the Global Health Minor:
Interested students should review the minor requirements and declare the minor as early as possible with their major advisor. It is not necessary to meet with a Health Studies advisor to declare this minor.
