Scholarship of Teaching
Assistant Professor: Demonstrates competence around teaching content and methods
- Demonstrates competence in teaching through 5 criteria (aligned, inclusive & equitable, active & engaged, growth oriented, and relevant) using self-assessment, peer assessment, and student assessment
- Shows evidence of learning in content and teaching methods
- Contributes to community-engaged teaching innovation or curriculum design
- Develops, revises, and teaches courses; guest lectures for another course
- Collaborates with others in curriculum development and/or teaching of a course
- Mentors students (e.g., independent study, graduate student portfolios and fieldwork)
- Creates an inclusive, supportive academic environment within the classroom and the School
Associate Professor: Demonstrates mastery around teaching content and methods
- Demonstrates mastery of teaching through 5 criteria (aligned, inclusive & equitable, active & engaged, growth oriented and relevant) using self-, peer, and student assessment
- Provides an environment that facilitates intellectual inquiry, student learning, and professional growth through cross-disciplinarity, connected learning, and/or community engagement
- Provides evidence of effectiveness in community-engaged teaching innovation or curriculum design
- Incorporates current research and professional debates into classroom instruction
- Disseminates knowledge about teaching; serves as a mentor for other faculty
- Collaborates with colleagues on teaching strategies and/or instructional techniques
- Creates an inclusive, supportive academic environment within the School
Full Professor: Demonstrates expertise around teaching content and methods
- Provides leadership for course teaching strategies and/or instructional techniques, as well as curriculum development, evaluation, and/or revision
- Demonstrates leadership regionally, nationally, or internationally in teaching expertise
- Provides leadership in community-engaged teaching innovation or curriculum design
- Contributes to the teaching effectiveness of other faculty through mentoring
- Disseminates knowledge in teaching/instructional competencies, innovative teaching methods, or curriculum development
- Serves as a mentor for faculty within and beyond the School
- Advocates for a supportive and inclusive academic environment at the campus level and beyond
Scholarship of Discovery
Assistant Professor: Demonstrates promise/productivity
- Develops area(s) of scholarly inquiry related to nursing, health, and/or pedagogy
- Engages in community-engaged or participatory scholarly inquiry
- Disseminates scholarship through publications and presentations (local or national)
- Mentors undergraduate and graduate students in research
Associate Professor: Demonstrates competence in focused area(s)
- Generates new knowledge that advances the area of inquiry
- Demonstrates independence as a scholar
- Provides evidence of effective community-engaged or participatory scholarly inquiry
- Disseminates scholarship to regional, national, and international audiences
- Seeks funding to support scholarly activities
- Includes undergraduate and graduate students in research and funding activities
Full Professor: Demonstrates excellence
- Demonstrates sustained excellence, leadership, and mastery in scholarly inquiry
- Exemplifies leadership in community-engaged or participatory scholarly inquiry
