Scholarship of Teaching
Assistant Teaching Professor: Demonstrates competence in facilitating student learning through teaching activities
- Organizes and conducts courses appropriate to the level of instruction, site, and nature of content
- Demonstrates competence in teaching through 5 criteria (aligned, inclusive & equitable, active & engaged, growth oriented, and relevant) using self-, peer-, and student assessment
- Creatively uses research findings and practice examples in teaching
- Contributes to community-engaged teaching innovation or curriculum design
- Creates an inclusive, supportive academic environment within the classroom and the School
- Contributes to curriculum and course development
- Mentors undergraduate and graduate students on independent study, research, and Capstones
Associate Teaching Professor: Demonstrates advanced skills in facilitating student learning through teaching activities
- Recognizes and promotes the development, retention, and academic achievement of a diverse student body
- Provides leadership at the program level in curriculum and course development and evaluation
- Creatively uses technological developments and innovative pedagogical strategies
- Uses novel approaches to community-engaged teaching and/or curriculum design
- Mentors colleagues within the program to improve teaching effectiveness
- Provides teaching services beyond the program
- Supervises students in independent study, fieldwork, and Capstone projects
Teaching (Full) Professor: Demonstrates expert skills in facilitating student learning through teaching activities
- Provides leadership within or beyond the program for major curricular developments and revisions
- Plans or facilitates programs that contribute to the campus teaching community
- Provides leadership in community-engaged teaching innovation, curriculum design, and/or mentorship
- Participates in campus-wide faculty councils related to teaching
- Mentors colleagues within or beyond the program to improve teaching effectiveness
- Provides expert teaching consultation beyond the program
- Recognized for teaching excellence through nomination or receipt of awards
Scholarship of Discovery
Assistant Teaching Professor: Demonstrates knowledge of scholarship of teaching and learning
- Applies current research in pedagogy to teaching
- Applies current research in specialty area to teaching
- Engages in or consults on community-engaged teaching programs/projects
Associate Teaching Professor: Demonstrates competence in scholarship of teaching and learning
- Contributes to development of effective and innovative teaching strategies
- Engages in scholarly inquiry related to teaching, a focused research area, and/or community-engaged programs
- Shares knowledge through presentations, publications, or other scholarly work
- Disseminates findings from scholarly inquiry
Teaching (Full) Professor: Demonstrates expertise in scholarship of teaching and learning
- Actively engages in a sustained program of scholarly inquiry
- Presents findings at regional or national conferences and/or in peer-reviewed publications
- Participates in organizations focused on scholarship of teaching and learning
- Participates in professional organizations focused on scholarly inquiry
- Receives funding for inquiry activities
- Serves as a reviewer or editor for professional journals
Scholarship of Application
Assistant Teaching Professor: Demonstrates competence in applying knowledge to service and practice
- Participates in School committees related to teaching or community-engaged programs

Scholarship of Integration

Associate Teaching Professor: Demonstrates advanced skills in synthesis across disciplines
- Integrates evidence from multiple disciplines in teaching and service
- Contributes to collaborative or community-based projects
- Uses multiple disciplines in scholarly inquiry
- Presents to local community and professional groups
Teaching (Full) Professor: Demonstrates expertise in synthesis across disciplines
- Leads or sustains interdisciplinary collaboration in campus or community programs
- Presents at regional, national, or global conferences
- Provides consultation and national leadership in interdisciplinary fields
- Contributes to cross-disciplinary publications
