IAS hosted its first “Mentor Chat” in January with alum Deborah Oaks (Science, Technology and the Environment, '08). Several IAS faculty and students participated in the UW-wide teach-in, “Ferguson and Beyond: Race, State Violence, and Activist Agendas for the 21st Century,” which was written up in the Seattle Times. IAS faculty members Dan Berger and Scott Kurashige presented on the panel "The Past is Always Present: Contextualizing US State Violence," and Wadiya Udell moderated the panel "#Blacklivesmatter: A Universal Call for Social Justice."
