Admissions
Bachelor of Science in Economics degree
The Bachelor of Science in Economics is a minimum-requirement major, allowing for a smooth transition when declaring Economics as your major once you have successfully completed required prerequisite courses. Read below to learn how you can become an Economics major based on your current status.
First Year Direct Admit (DFA)
Apply as a First-year student if any of the following statements describe you:
- You plan to enter UW Bothell after the summer of graduating from high school.
- You have earned college credits during your time in high school (through Running Start, College in the high school, Tech Prep, AP, and/or IB) and you plan to enter UW Bothell after the summer of graduating (regardless of how many college credits you have earned or will earn).
- You have never attended college since leaving high school (regardless of your age).
Students with a 3.3 GPA who apply to UWB upon graduating high school and who list Economics as their first-choice major are admitted into the program. While considered Pre-Business (PRBUS), students are under the School of Business and can declare the Economics Major as soon as the prerequisite courses are successfully completed.

Transfer Students
A transfer applicant has attended a college or university after high school graduation (summer excluded) but has not yet earned a bachelor’s degree. (Students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree should apply as a post-baccalaureate student).
To be admitted into the major, transfer students must simply have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 in across all college coursework, as well as cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 in the prerequisite requirements–with a minimum grade of 2.0 in each. No application is required; however, students will need to work with their transfer admission advisor to submit a declaration of major form, which will be reviewed and then approved or denied by the School of Business Undergraduate Admissions Team.
