Dr. Solmaz Batebi received her Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). She has over six years of professional experience at the Tehran Stock Exchange, where she worked in market surveillance, research and development, and investor education.

Batebi’s expertise lies at the intersection of finance and machine learning, and her teaching emphasizes coding skills — particularly using Python for financial applications such as derivatives and investment analysis.

Research

Batebi’s research applies machine learning and causal inference methods to investigate unresolved questions in behavioral finance and risk management. She also explores topics in green finance, with a particular focus on the role of corporate social responsibility in mitigating risk during periods of financial distress.

Dr. Kivalina Grove holds a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Alaska and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Oregon, specializing in Educational Data Science. She previously taught at the University of Manitoba in Canada and has professional experience in small business and nonprofit work, including serving on the board of the Alaska Brain Injury Consortium.

Research

Grove’s research focuses on meaningful consumer practices with real-world impact for individuals and communities. She works closely with community and business partners and uses geospatial data analysis to study topics such as consumer behavior, market and moral logics, and community-centered practices.
