Empowering Women in Business: UW Bothell Business School Celebrates International Women’s Day 2024

At the UW Bothell School of Business, International Women’s Day 2024 was more than just a date on the calendar – it was an opportunity to grow and celebrate. Bringing together a dynamic blend of industry professionals, students, clubs, and staff, the International Women’s Day event was a testament to the ongoing commitment to fostering diversity and leadership within the business community.

Organized by a collaboration between student clubs including Women in Business (WiB), Bothell Women in Science and Engineering (BWiSE), Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), and Association for Computing Machinery – Women (ACM-W), the event received support from key figures such as Reinhart Earhart, Direct First-Year Admit (DFA) Business Advisor, Professor Carol Shaw, and Dean of STEM Jennifer McCloud-Mann. Together, they orchestrated an event that truly embodied the spirit of unity and collaboration.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the engaging panel discussion led by Paige Williams, Business student and President of the Women in Business Club. Williams skillfully moderated a Q&A session featuring Irena Atov, Principal Architect at Microsoft Azure, and Michelle Carey, Boeing Executive On-Site Director for UW. Dr. Atov’s insights emphasized the importance of maintaining focus amidst career pursuits, while Ms. Carey delved into the transformative power of confidence in the business world.

We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Atov and Ms. Carey for generously sharing their time, expertise, and invaluable perspectives with our community. Their contributions enriched the event and left a lasting impact on all who attended.

What truly set the event apart was the active participation of students, who posed thought-provoking questions that elicited insightful and motivating responses from the industry professionals. Beyond the formalities, students had the invaluable opportunity to connect personally with Dr. Atov and Ms. Carey, exploring potential internship and job opportunities at Microsoft and Boeing.

As the event drew to a close, it was evident that the event had left an indelible mark on all who attended. By championing inclusivity, mentorship, and empowerment, all involved reaffirmed their dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders in business and beyond.
