Dr. Laverty is among those faculty members who founded the original Business Administration Program at the University of Washington Bothell, in 1993. He is member of the University of Washington Teaching Academy, and the former Director of the University of Washington’s Environmental Management Graduate Certificate Program.

His research has been published in the Academy of Management Review, Advances in Strategic Management, the Journal of High Technology Management Research, Business Horizons, Management Decision, and the Academy of Management Best Papers Proceedings.
His current work focuses on [a] economic and organizational dimensions of strategy problems involving long time horizons and intangible assets and [b] the connections among business strategy, environmentally sustainable strategies and technologies, and temporal and social dilemmas.

Dr. Laverty is Principal Investigator for “Environmental Management Keystone Projects,” funded by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation. He recently submitted a proposal to the UW College of the Environment to support a project to explore a university initiative in sustainable business.

His teaching interests are in Business Policy and Strategy, International Management, and Environmentally Sustainable Business. In 1999, Dr. Laverty received the University of Washington’s highest teaching honor, the Distinguished Teaching Award.
