Jin-Kyu Jung presents research on the limits of crowdfunding data

""

IAS faculty members Jin-Kyu Jung co-presented an ongoing collaborative work with Nora Kenworthy at School of Nursing and Health Studies at the 2021 4S (Society for Social Studies of Science) Annual Meeting. Their paper, "Knowing through undoing: Creative, collaborative, and disruptive strategies for remaking and unmapping public knowledge about crowdfunding platforms," presents several persistent challenges that limit what is knowable from crowdfunding data, and how crowdfunding data is heavily shaped by cultural scripts and platform affordances that influence how users tell and share stories. The paper introduces a nascent project that reconstitutes and disrupts this platformed data, seeking to create an alternative ‘platform’ for collaboratively making what is invisible in crowdfunding visible, sensory, and engaging.
