MFA in Creative Writing & Poetics student Nicole McCarthy's project "Chatter" (see images below) will appear in the 2018 Best American Experimental Writing Anthology from Wesleyan Press. McCarthy reflects on her works inclusion in the anthology:
Getting work accepted in the 2018 Best American Experimental Writing Anthology was a beautiful accomplishment for me, especially considering the piece that will appear in the book is something I worked on closely with Renee Gladman, my thesis advisor. "Chatter" was a memory project for me (a longer iteration of it appears in my thesis manuscript) to visually and textually showcase how memory overlaps and becomes somewhat of a hum in the body. Being in this program was a necessity for me because it gave me the liberty to experiment with different forms and styles of writing in a post-genre mind frame while also allowing me room to fail and refocus in a different way when I needed to. I am incredibly grateful to the professors in the MFA program for continuously supporting and championing our growth and creativity.
