Dr. Niitsu Presents in Tokyo

Dr. Kosuke “Ko” Niitsu, Assistant Professor at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) School of Nursing and Health Studies (SNHS), was invited to provide his special seminar at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) in December 2019. Dr. Akiko Kondo, Professor of Nursing at TMDU, and her Japanese nursing students visited UWB SNHS in the Summer of 2019. This seminar served as a great reunion to catch up with each other. During his seminar, Dr. Niitsu described his life stories about how he grew up in Japan, received his higher education in the United States, and became an Assistant Professor at UWB SNHS. Despite the fact that it was only one day after Christmas during the Winter break, his seminar attracted a large audience, including the nursing students, faculty, and even alumni of TMDU, and he received lots of questions and positive feedback. He was also invited to provide his advice and mentorship for the PhD nursing students that Dr. Kondo has been supervising. His relationship with TMDU continues to grow as he is a COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) Fellow at UWB partnering with TMDU. He is currently teaching BHLTH497: Resilience and Mental Health in the Spring 2020 Quarter, and the UWB SNHS students in BHLTH497 and the TMDU Nursing students have been interacting with each other and learning from each other virtually online via Padlet and Zoom.
