Dr. Claire Han‘Claire’ Jungyoun, Han, PhD, MSN, RN

Part-Time Lecturer

Dr. Claire Han received her PhD in Nursing Science from the University of Washington (UW), Seattle, and her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Nursing from the Seoul National University, in Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Han completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Behavioral Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (2 years) and in Cancer and Health Informatics at the UW School of Medicine (1 year). Her clinical experience is in oncology and critical care nursing over 10 years of experience in this area. To further combine competencies and practical opportunities of the Doctorate Nurse Practitioner (DNP) degree with the scientific rigor of her PhD degree and her clinical research to date, Dr. Han returned to UW Seattle School of Nursing DNP and currently 2nd year DNP student. Dr. Han is currently working as a clinical assistant professor at the UW Seattle School of Nursing.

Dr. Han's research interests lie in the symptom science and biological mechanisms underlying symptoms in oncology, especially in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Dr. Han is well trained to study biomarkers including genetics, metabolomics, and microbiome, and distinct symptom profiles (i.e., latent classes, symptom clusters). Her research is based on Precision Health and NINR Symptom Science Model. Dr. Han’s long-term goal is to develop personalized symptom interventions, specifically gastrointestinal and psychological symptoms and fatigue in CRC survivors with long-term symptoms or late-effects of cancer treatments. Dr. Han is currently conducting a pilot study to collect her preliminary data (symptoms and microbiome in CRC survivors) for future lager study. Dr. Han’s current research is supported by National Cancer Institute and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Grant.
