Community Engagement Associations and Networks
UW Bothell is proud to be a member of several national and regional associations dedicated to civic and community engagement. These memberships provide opportunities for faculty, students, and staff to advance their community-engaged teaching, research, and public service.
American Association of State Colleges and Universities
American Association of State Colleges and Universities is a national organization that represents the sector of over 500 regional public colleges, universities, and systems united by a shared commitment to make affordable, high-quality education available to all students. AASCU supports its members through leadership development programs, public policy advocacy, and initiatives that promote civic and global engagement, student success, and regional economic development.
The American Democracy Project is a nonpartisan AASCU initiative that prepares students to be informed and actively engaged. ADP has promoted civic learning and democratic engagement through programs that emphasize civic literacy, bridge building, voter education, and leadership development.
Association of American Colleges & Universities
Association of American Colleges & Universities is a global membership organization dedicated to advancing the democratic purposes of higher education by promoting equity, innovation, and excellence in liberal education.
AAC&U’s Collaborative Online International Learning initiative aims to deepen students’ global engagement in the classroom without the need for international travel by facilitating connections between international partners. COIL is a teaching method that fosters global competence through the development of a multicultural learning environment that links university classes in different countries.

Campus Compact
Campus Compact is the largest and oldest national higher education association dedicated to higher education civic and community engagement. Campus Compact supports institutions in building the knowledge, skills, and capacity needed to foster a just, equitable, and sustainable future.
Opportunities available through the Campus Compact:
- Nominate an undergraduate or graduate student for the Newman Civic Fellowship.
- Apply for the Engaged Scholars Initiative — a one-year, cohort-based leadership and professional development program for early-career faculty and staff.
- Access the syllabi library, which features hundreds of courses that integrate community-engaged learning. Create a Campus Compact account to access this free resource.
- Nominate UW Bothell faculty, staff, and students for the national Campus Compact Impact Awards — or apply yourself!
- Join Communities of Practice and Affinity Networks.
- Propose a conference presentation and/or attend the Annual Conference.
- Enroll in the Community Engagement Professional Credential.
Imagining America
Imagining America is a consortium of scholars, artists, and organizers working together to envision and build a more just and liberated world. Through public scholarship, cultural organizing, and institutional change, IA bridges academic and community divides to inspire collective imagination and civic action on pressing public issues.
Opportunities available through IA:
- Nominate a student for the Publicly Active Graduate Education (PAGE) Fellowship and the Joy of Giving Something Fellowship (undergraduate).
- Join the IA Teaching and Learning Circle — an online learning community that builds peer support and conversations about the opportunities, joys, and challenges of producing public and activist scholarship, as well as designing and delivering community-engaged courses and projects.
- Attend the IA National Gathering.
NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education
NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education is a leading professional organization dedicated to the advancement, support, and advocacy of student affairs in higher education.
Opportunities available through NASPA:
- Participate in the Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Knowledge Community, which offers support to student affairs professionals as they promote engaged citizenship and student development, encourage democratic participation in their communities, respect and appreciate diversity, and advocate applied learning and social responsibility.
- Attend the NASPA Annual Conference.
- Participate in online learning opportunities for flexible professional development.
Washington Campus Coalition for the Public Good
Washington Campus Coalition for the Public Good (formerly Washington Campus Compact) is a network of higher education institutions dedicated to advancing the civic and public missions of colleges and universities across Washington state. It supports student success and community well-being through initiatives in academic engagement, civic leadership, environmental stewardship, and social equity.
Opportunities available through Washington Campus Coalition for the Public Good:
- Apply for funding for student fellowships through the Civic Leadership and Engagement Corps.
- Nominate a graduate or undergraduate student for the Student Civic Leadership Awards.
- Attend the Continuums of Service Conference.
