Peer Facilitation

BISSKL 402 provides students with experience in teaching and facilitation. The course is designed to offer advanced students the opportunity to work closely with a faculty member on how courses are designed and taught. Students deepen their understanding of subject material along with training in pedagogical techniques and facilitation approaches. Peer facilitators WILL NOT grade.

Most students who act as Peer Facilitators in IAS courses are invited to do so by the faculty member teaching the course. Students have generally developed a working relationship with the faculty member through prior coursework or other means.

BISSKL 402 Peer Facilitation is a Variable Credit course (2-5 credits). Students may complete up to 10 credits total under the BISSKL 402 course number as Peer Facilitators. BISSKL 402 is a C/NC course (no numeric grade is possible).

Peer Facilitation requires the consent of the instructor and must comply with the following standards:

  • The student must demonstrate adequate preparation, as evidenced by grades and/or previous course work in the area of proposed Peer Facilitation.
  • Prior to registration, faculty must approve the student as their Peer Facilitator. The student is responsible for listing the following duties expected of them in their role as Peer Facilitator:

It is the responsibility of the student to complete the Peer Facilitation Form (Word doc). Once completed, the form needs to be submitted to the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (IAS) office for the entry code. The IAS Office is located in UW1 room 390. Do not leave the Peer Facilitation form with the instructor.
