Julie Shayne and Denise Hattwig launch the Feminist Digital Center

After two years of work and two Digital Scholarship Faculty Fellows (DSFF) grants from the Library, the Feminist Digital Center is finally live! This year, Dr. Julie Shayne won a second DSFF grant to fund student research assistant Tessa Denton. Tessa is Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies (GWSS) and Culture, Literature & the Arts (CLA) double major. Tessa worked closely with Denise Hattwig, Head of Digital Scholarship, to build the site which Julie and Denise have been envisioning for years. The site is an open access platform for student-based research and writing collaborations done at UWB. It includes signature projects from four of Dr. Shayne’s classes: The Feminist Community Archive of WashingtonThe Feminist Archive ExhibitsThe Badass Womxn & Enbies Zines; and feminist writing more generally.

Most of the student efforts housed in the site are the result of research they did with the support of GWSS librarian Penelope Wood and Denise Hattwig. Projects started in 2015 and iterations of all of these classes are scheduled for academic year 2023-24.

If you are interested in enrolling in any of classes represented in the Feminist Digital Center contact Dr. Julie Shayne at jshayne@uw.edu to learn more.
