Education Studies: Elementary Education Option

Bachelor of Arts with Teacher Certification

The Educational Studies: Elementary Education Option prepares students to become certified teachers in Washington state elementary schools. Upon completion of this highly structured, cohorted course of study, students meet all the requirements to be recommended for Washington State Residency teacher certification.

During the program, students also complete a 20 credit concentration in either English To Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or Special Education (SPED). Both concentrations will qualify teacher candidates to be recommended to add these endorsements to an elementary education endorsement.

Core Themes

All students in the Elementary Education Option complete coursework and student teaching that deepen their critical reflection and learning related to five core themes:

  • Education and equity
  • Theories of learning, culture, and identity
  • Teaching and learning in a multicultural society
  • Research and educational knowledge
  • Area of personal significance

Join the Elementary Education Option

Students who wish to join the Elementary Education Option must first declare the Educational Studies major. Information on the Elementary Education Option declaration process can be found here.

The application to the Spring 2024 cohort will open on December 1, 2023.
