Office hours

Our open hours are posted below. During our open hours, student assistants are available to answer basic questions and help you check in for advising appointments. You can find our Academic Advising Center at UW1-160, the first floor of Founder’s Hall (formerly the Student Success Center).

Leadership

Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean for Office of Student Academic Success

Cinnamon Hillyard, Ph.D.

Dr. Cinnamon Hillyard is the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean for the Office of Student Academic Success at the University of Washington Bothell where she oversees undergraduate academic advising, first year core courses, career and experiential learning and the learning commons. She leads campus wide support for curriculum oversight, assessment of campus learning goals, and graduate studies. She manages several externally funded projects to support students’ success.

Her research focuses on how people use quantitative information to make decisions and how undergraduate education can foster the development of quantitative literacy, and she has taught mathematics and statistics at several institutions. She is a Carnegie National Faculty member where she has led multiple initiatives around the Carnegie Pathways program, including developing programs to support learning mindsets, belonging, sense of purpose, and motivation. Dr. Hillyard served on EAB’s Student Success Innovation Council and participated in AASCU’s Community of Student Success Practitioners forum in order to work collaboratively with other student success leaders nationwide. She is also leading her campus team in AASCU’s Student Success Equity Initiative.

Associate Vice Chancellor Hillyard holds a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in mathematics from Utah State University. She was the first in her family to get a college degree and is passionate about helping students find their path through college, especially those interested in science and mathematics.

Director, Learning Commons

Erik Echols

Erik brings over 20 years of experience advancing peer learning and student success at UW Bothell. Beginning his career as a peer tutor, he has dedicated his work to creating collaborative, student-centered learning environments. His leadership in the Learning Commons focuses on developing strong peer educators, expanding access to academic support, and building programs that help students grow as writers, quantitative thinkers, and self-directed learners. He finds the greatest reward in mentoring students and celebrating the impact they make at UW Bothell and beyond.

STARS Program Director

Alishia Ruff (she/her)

Alishia Ruff is the director of the STARS Program, where she leads initiatives that support student success, belonging, and pathways into technology careers. She works closely with students, staff, faculty, and industry partners to create high impact programs focused on academic achievement, leadership development, mentorship, and access to experiential learning opportunities.

Assistant Director for Graduate Studies

Sheneetra Wilson

With over a decade of experience in higher education, Sheneetra has spent most of her career advocating for students, both within and outside institutions, and ensuring students have the tools, resources, and information they need to succeed with a primary focus on graduate student success. She holds a BS in Psychology with a minor in Biology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga along with two MS degrees in Academic Advising and Adult Learning and Leadership and a graduate certificate in Social Justice Education from Kansas State University.

Assistant Dean of Academic Advising

Suzanne Yates, Ed.D.

Dr. Yates is an academic advising practitioner with experience leading advising teams to support student success outcomes. Her specialties include support for first-generation students, advising organizational development, and her team was the recipient of the 2026 UW Distinguished Staff Award for Innovation for their work creating a new academic advising unit.
