Peer Facilitator

Position description

If you have an affinity for numbers and a passion for helping people in a classroom setting, this could be the job for you! The QSC is currently looking for peer facilitators in introductory Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Physics courses.

QSC Peer Facilitators help students, faculty and staff with quantitative processes within the classroom, which includes:

  • Working with faculty to help support students within classes
  • Helping with concepts related to quantitative classwork
  • Discussion of appropriate quantitative/problem solving techniques for any given task or assignment
  • Using questioning techniques to help students access their own learning
  • Explanation of quantitative concepts, theories and formulas
  • modeling of learning strategies and study skills

QSC Peer Facilitators are required to attend staff meetings and trainings to discuss techniques and improve skills. They work directly with faculty to help support students within a classroom setting. They may also be required to perform light clerical or educational outreach tasks such as answering routine questions and making class visits to advertise this program when time permits.

Minimum requirements

A 3.0 in at least one introductory Biology, Chemistry, Math, or Physics course offered at UWB that you would be willing to peer facilitate. Candidates are also expected to familiarize themselves with the purpose of the QSC via our website.

Front Desk Coordinator

Position description

Are you friendly? Do you like to help out?

The Front Desk Coordinators are often the first person a new student meets when they come to the QSC. Therefore, Coordinators need to welcome clients into the Center, and maintain a positive, upbeat attitude, to help students feel comfortable and get the help they need.

Additionally, coordinators are expected to:

  • Assist clients with sign-in procedures
  • Manage, and explain to clients, the process of receiving assistance from a tutor
  • Manage the resource checkout system
  • Attend trainings
  • Respond to inquiries regarding the Quantitative Skills Center services and workshops
  • Operate office equipment, such as the phone, computer/word processor, and printers/copiers
  • Perform related duties as required.

QSC or CSS Tutor

Position description

If you have an affinity for numbers and a passion for helping people, this could be the job for you! The QSC is currently looking for tutors in ALL SUBJECTS. In particular we have known needs for Business, Climate Science, CSS, GIS, Math, Physics, and Statistics.

Quantitative Skills Center tutors help students, faculty and staff with any aspect of the quantitative process, which includes:

  • Help with the concepts related to a quantitative homework assignment
  • Discussion of appropriate quantitative/problem solving techniques for any given task or assignment
  • Support in the use of quantitative software such as Excel, SPSS, MATLAB, etc…
  • Assistance in the understanding and organization of data
  • Explanation of quantitative concepts, theories and formulas
  • Modeling of learning strategies and study skills
  • Help with interpreting or creating graphs or charts

QSC and CSS tutors are required to attend staff meetings and trainings to discuss techniques and improve skills. They may also be required to perform light clerical or educational outreach tasks such as answering routine questions and making class visits to advertise the QSC when time permits.

Minimum requirements

A 3.0 in at least four quantitative courses offered at UWB that you would be willing to tutor. Candidates are also expected to familiarize themselves with the purpose of the QSC via our website. For CSS tutors, you should have at least successfully completed CSS 142, 143 and 342 before applying to be a CSS tutor.

The Writing & Communication Center is now accepting applications for our Autumn 2025 Peer Tutor cohort through July 15, 2026. We will review application materials mid-spring quarter and begin scheduling interviews in July.

Peer Writing Consultant

Position description

Peer Consultants at the University of Washington Bothell Writing and Communication Center (WaCC) tutor UW Bothell students through individual conferences, group workshops (within and outside of scheduled courses) and peer writing groups. Tutoring sessions can be face-to-face in-person, or virtual. Our goal is to help students become stronger, effective, more confident writers and communicators.

Peer Consultants are also responsible for completing projects related to educational outreach, marketing, and/or facilitating group work. These tasks have included, for example, visiting classes to publicize our services, assisting with peer review sessions, and classroom workshops.

Typical duties & responsibilities

Peer Writing Consultants report to the Assistant Director of the WaCC and work closely with other consultants, staff and faculty.

Peer Consultants:

  • Confer with students face-to-face, via email, and on video to provide feedback on assignments, ideas, drafts of papers, and other creative exercises.
  • Support student writers with all aspects of reading, writing, creative and presentation processes.
  • Receive and participate in continued training in writing and tutoring pedagogy and practice.
  • Assist with research and assessment tasks.
  • Collaborate in planning, publicizing and implementing WaCC activities and outreach.
  • Introduce services to students through class presentations, flyers, posters, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

  • Possess a strong interest in writing and passion for mentoring others.
  • Have a solid command of the academic writing process and the nuances of grammar.
  • Are currently enrolled student at UW Bothell in good academic and behavioral standing (3.0 GPA minimum).
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills; ability to work with diverse students, coworkers, supervisors and others in a friendly, courteous manner.
  • Able to commit for at least one academic year.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word or Google Docs.

Desired qualifications

  • Ability and desire to work independently, take initiative, and manage own projects
  • Customer service experience
  • Good public speaking skills
  • Familiarity with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or other virtual meeting applications.
  • Understanding with spreadsheet and presentation applications.
