Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences


Preference will be given to mature students having a genuine interest in the Oaxaca Study Abroad Program and/or some prior relevant coursework.

Before applying, contact your academic advisor to determine which of these credit options meets your departmental requirements.

Six-credit undergraduate options:
BIS 480 (6 cr)
HIST 457 (5 cr) + HIST 399 (1cr)

Five-credit graduate options:
BCULST 598 (5 cr)
BPOLST 598 (5 cr)

Your complete application will consist of the following required materials:

  • Application Form
  • Statement of Purpose
  • One Letter of Recommendation 
    (From a UW faculty member or instructor familiar with your academic work)


  1. Once you have confirmed an applicable credit option, complete your Application Form and Statement of Purpose here.  
  2. Identify an academic recommender and provide him/her with Recommendation Guidelines.  Your recommender will be instructed to email his/her Letter of Recommendation to Lisa Olason in the IAS Graduate Office.  Your recommendation should be submitted as soon as possible.

The final deadline of April 12 has passed, and the program is full.
