Learning through interactions. A study abroad experience Ireland by Lucia Lari Zuniga

A study abroad program in Ireland gave Ana the opportunity to experience public health beyond the classroom. Through the Ireland: Resilience and Resistance program, she explored how public policies shape communities while gaining firsthand insight into the country’s history and healthcare system.

By visiting public health agencies and speaking with local residents, Ana experienced concepts she had previously only studied in class. These conversations helped her better understand Ireland’s approach to healthcare, work life balance and the role of community in supporting public well being.

As an aspiring public health professional, Ana found that learning directly from the people and places behind the policies deepened her understanding in ways a classroom could not. Her story reflects how Global Initiatives can provide UW Bothell students opportunities to connect academic learning with meaningful experiences that inspire their future goals.
