Strength in diversity

Dear Campus Community,
Eyes and hearts around the world are focused on New Zealand (Aetorea) today as we learn more about the hateful, white supremacist attack on two mosques in the city of Christchurch. Every day, but on this day in particular, we want to express our care and support for Muslim students, faculty and staff at UW Bothell and in surrounding communities.
We encourage you to read today’s post on our Student Diversity Center’s Facebook page for more information about campus efforts to support our Muslim population.
We also encourage you to read the message on UW President Ana Mari Cauce’s blog today, because we share her belief that, “Together, we can and must reject the white nationalism, racism, religious bigotry and Islamophobia that are tragically on the rise around the world, including here in the United States.”
UW Bothell and groups in our local community also have resources that are available for those in need:
UW Bothell Counseling Center
UW Bothell Student Diversity Center
Islamic Center of Bothell
Muslim Association of Puget Sound
Council on American-Islamic Relations - Washington
Here at UW Bothell, we are proud of the diverse nature of our community. The many cultures, nationalities and faith traditions present in our community strengthen and enlighten us each and every day. Please know that — more than ever — we are unwavering in our commitment to creating a place of safety and respect on our campus.
On behalf of all the UW Bothell campus leadership,
Bjong Wolf Yeigh, Ph.D., F.ASME
Chancellor and Professor of Engineering
Wayne Au, Ph.D.
Interim Dean of Diversity & Equity
Professor, School of Educational Studies
Tim Wilson, Ph.D.
