Accessibility services at UW Bothell

UW Bothell IT Digital Learning in partnership with UW-IT Access Technology Center offer a variety of accessibility services for the UW Bothell campus. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ana Thompson via email, phone at 425-352-3794, or stop by LBA-204E.

We offer group or workshops or individual staff training on creating accessible documents, learning about universal design, accessibility in Canvas, PDF accessibility, etc. To request a workshop for your group, contact Ana Thompson via email or phone at 425-352-3794.

Canvas course accessibility assessments

We offer accessibility assessments for Canvas courses where we work with a faculty member to do training and review course files to determine actions needed. This process takes at least 2 weeks, and it is setup on a first come, first serve basis. To get started, submit a Request for an Accessibility Assessment (UW login is required).

Online training

Accessibility 101, our online training option offered in Canvas, comes in two formats:

UW free PDF remediation service

If you have PDFs that are reusable and high impact , you can apply to have those files remediated (made accessible) by Access Technology Services (ATS) PDF Document Remediation Service. If approved, the files will go into a queue for remediation and you will be notified when they are finished.

UW free captioning service

ATS will caption a limited number of UW videos without charge through a service supported by UW-IT. Individuals, departments, and other units at the UW are encouraged to apply for funding to caption highly-visible, high-impact, multiple use, and/or strategic videos. For more information, contact Susie Hawkey (

Examples include:

  • Videos available to the public on a high-use website
  • Videos that will be used multiple times in a course
  • Videos developed by several faculty members to be used in several different classes

If you are interested in applying for this service, please submit the UW Captioning Service Application.
