Professor

Juan Camilo Gómez is a Professor of Economics at the University of Washington Bothell School of Business. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota, with fields in game theory and financial economics. His research focuses on game theory, particularly bargaining, cooperative solution concepts, surplus sharing, cost allocation and coalition formation.

Much of his work examines how individuals and organizations can cooperate and share the benefits or costs of cooperation when their interests do not fully coincide. His research has been published in outlets including Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Mathematical Economics, International Journal of Game Theory, Social Choice and Welfare, Mathematical Social Sciences, and Economics Letters. Over his career, he has taught a broad range of economics courses at the undergraduate, MBA, and doctoral levels and has received numerous awards and recognitions for his teaching.

Gómez joined UW Bothell in 2006 as the faculty’s second economist. Over the past 20 years, he has played a central role in building and expanding the Economics program. Working with his Economics colleagues, he helped lead the development of the new Bachelor of Science in Economics, a significant milestone for economics education at UW Bothell. He has also strengthened the School of Business through a range of academic and faculty leadership roles.

Originally from Colombia, Gómez earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics at Universidad de los Andes. Before pursuing an academic career, he worked at Colombia's National Planning Department and in the private sector. He has also held academic appointments at the University of Copenhagen, Macalester College, and Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
