Teaching Interests
Dr. Hintz learns alongside students, teachers, and educational leaders in classrooms and school communities to better understand mathematics learning and teaching.
Research and Scholarship Interests
Dr. Hintz’s research focuses on mathematics education, specifically how to support all students – and educators – in meaningful mathematics learning. She is the Director of the Goodlad Institute for Educational Renewal – a UW research center that exists to promote justice-centered purposes of education by co-designing and studying processes for continuous renewal with schools, universities, and communities.

Research project funded through College Spark Washington to 1) continue building relationships as a regional coalition of fourteen partner institutions, including school districts, community-based organizations, and teacher preparation programs — the Transformational & Equitable Education (T.E.E.) Coalition — in order to 2) recruit and retain the cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and racial diversity of the teacher workforce in Snohomish and King Counties and beyond.

Research planning grant with the Northshore School District Racial and Educational Justice Team to design and build a multi-tiered system of teacher preparation and professional development that focuses on how K-12 teachers come into the practice of culturally and linguistically relevant and sustaining mathematics and science education for multilingual learners.

Research project funded through College Spark Washington to 1) form a regional coalition of fourteen partner institutions, including school districts, community-based organizations, and teacher preparation programs, in order to 2) increase and inform capacity as regional partners to recruit and serve teachers from historically underrepresented groups in education, improve retention and graduation rates for teachers of color, and prepare an educational system that is designed to sustain the well-being and thriving of culturally and linguistically diverse teachers.
