Monthly Newsletter: January 2026

Welcome to Winter 2026!
As we enter the new year together, we wish our community and community partners a warm and healthy winter season! We thank you all for your continued support as we look forward to another great year of community events, educational opportunities, and connections.
This month, we’re also celebrating exciting updates:
- UW Capstone Shoutout We would love to take a second to recognize our UW Bothell and UW Seattle Capstone interns and thank them for all of their hard work. Last year, the Capstone program brought us 10 amazing interns; 5 from Seattle and 5 from Bothell, who each brought their own unique skillsets and knowledge to CoSEE.
- In return for their amazing multidisciplinary work, we offered them hands-on learning experience, mentorships, applied research opportunities, connections with community partners, and academic credit for their effort.
- This quarter we welcome five new interns: Joel from Seattle, and Cat, Ian, Ruth and Charlotte from Bothell!
- We sincerely thank the University of Washington, Bothell and Seattle for their continued support through the Capstone program, and we are so grateful and excited to onboard more students in the coming years!
- Amazon Wish List! We’ve launched an Amazon Wish List for CoSEE featuring tools, supplies, and materials that directly support our restoration work, educational programs, and adaptive children’s library. If you’d like to contribute, your support helps sustain hands-on learning and stewardship at the park. Please ship to: 17927 113th Ave NE, Box 358522, Bothell WA 98011.
Your donations help grow programs that connect communities and support thriving socio-ecological futures in our region. Thank you for investing in transformative education and socio-ecological resilience.
Recap & January Highlights
The Yard-By-Yard Project
The Yard-by-Yard project is officially underway! Yard-by-Yard will provide native plants alongside interns, volunteers, and neighboring homeowners to offer hands-on planting support and plant-care education to participating households. After reaching out through FHNA and CoSEE, we’ve connected with multiple interested homeowners and selected six properties for the project! Over the coming weeks, we’ll be designing and workshopping custom planting plans for each yard that will help to support wildlife, reduce invasive species and chemical use, conserve water, and create beautiful, pollinator-friendly landscapes that neighbors can see, share, and replicate throughout the community.

First Day Hike at Saint Edward State Park!
We started the New Year on the trail! CoSEE and Washington State Parks held a community First Day Hike in Saint Edward State Park. We explored the park’s winter ecology, stretched our legs, and welcomed 2026 together in nature.
Volunteer Work Party at Saint Edward State Park
Volunteers helped to remove invasive species such as English ivy and Himalayan blackberry to support native habitat restoration on January 29! This was an awesome day for hands-on ecological stewardship and really creating an impact, however small, in Saint Edwards State Park. We thank all who attended, and we look forward to seeing folks next month as well!
