First Year & Pre-Major Program Policies & Resources

Some policies and resources are the same for all courses at UW Bothell, this includes policies about equal access and accommodation in the classroom, common academic support resources, and campus-wide policies on things like weather closures. You’ll find all these policies at the bottom of this page. FYPP has some goals, policies and practices that might be different from other programs on campus, but are the same across your FYPP courses, including Discovery Core courses. You’ll find those in the next section.

  • Academic Advising: Use the Academic Advising page as your hub for scheduling appointments, finding resources, and exploring majors, minors, and general education requirements. You’ll also find contact details so you can easily connect with an advisor for support.
  • Study Abroad & Global Initiatives: Supports international engagement at UW Bothell by expanding study abroad, fostering intercultural competence, and building global partnerships. Through these programs, you can study abroad and earn UW credits toward your degree.
  • Office of Financial Aid: Financial aid is available through grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study. To apply, complete the FAFSA online. Once processed, you’ll receive an award letter with your aid details. Be sure to follow each step carefully and contact Financial Aid if your enrollment plans change, as this may affect your award.
  • Division of Student Affairs: The Division of Student Affairs brings together a variety of student-focused offices that support your engagement, well-being, and success. From recreation and housing to career services, counseling, and wellness resources, these departments provide opportunities for personal growth, leadership, and community connection throughout your time at UW Bothell.

Petitions, Grade Appeals & Grievances

Our Petitions page explains how pre-major students can request exceptions to academic policies. It outlines four main petitions: the 105-Credit Petition for students who haven’t declared a major after five quarters or 105 credits, the Course Repeat Petition for retaking certain courses a third time, the CADRs Petition for completing admission requirements, and the Transfer Course Petition for reviewing courses not automatically counted toward requirements. Most petitions require advisor support, are submitted online, and are reviewed by a committee that responds within about two weeks. You can also find information on this page related to UW Bothell’s Grade Appeal and Grievance Policies.
