105-Credit Petition

Undergraduates must declare a major by the time they have completed five (5) academic quarters (summer quarter is not counted) and earned 105 credits or a hold will be placed on their registration until they either declare a major, or meet with an advisor and receive a Pre-Major extension.

Students can apply at least one quarter before completing 5 academic-year quarters and 105 credits. Transfer students who are admitted to the University with 105 or more credits are expected to declare a major before their second quarter or obtain an extension.

Students should meet with an academic advisor to discuss their academic goals and review how to complete the 105 Credit Rule Petition. The online form is located with this link.

The Petition committee meets every other week through the 5th week of quarter and then the committee will meet every week until the end of the quarter. The committee will respond to your petition via your UWemail within two weeks of receiving it. The committee meets throughout the academic year except during holidays and winter and spring breaks.

Course Repeat Petition

Students who are taking an (FYPP) course for the third time will need to petition the department to be allowed to repeat a course a third time. This includes (BCORE, BCUSP, BJAPN, BLEAD, BSPAN or BWRIT). If a student attempts to register for a course for the third time the registration system responds with a message that says the course has been previously repeated and the student is not eligible.

Students will need to fill out the link below to the Undergraduate Learning Petition committee. If the course is not an undergraduate learning (FYPP) course then the student will submit the pdf petition to the department that is responsible for that class. Please feel free to connect with a Pre-Major advisor if you have questions about where you should submit the petition. You can email us at uwbadvis@uw.edu

CADRs Petition

Students who have been admitted without all of the CADR’s completed, have three academic quarters of being admitted to the University to complete the missing CADR. Students who have not completed the requirement by the third quarter will have a hold placed on their account preventing registration for future quarters. This petition will lift their hold.

When the Registrar’s Office has applied this hold, you will want to submit the petition to the First Year & Pre-Major Program office.

Students are encouraged to work with their academic advisor to develop a plan for completing the CADR requirement prior to submitting the petition to extend the deadline.

Transfer Course Petition

This petition allows students to petition a course from a different institution that did not come in as an area of knowledge. Students must explain why the course should be transferable or equivalent to a specific UW course. You must submit a form for each course that is being petitioned and a course syllabus.

Note: Some Transfer Course petitions would go to the department offering the course being petitioned.*

You can apply after your courses have been formally evaluated by the University of Washington-Bothell.

Students can submit the online petition by themselves or can work with an academic advisor who can help you submit the petition. You will need to submit a personal statement and copy of the course syllabus with that form to the Petition committee. Please email the syllabus to uwbadvis@uw.edu.
