A Discovery Core Experience
May be taken as BCORE 107 (Social Sciences)
About This Course
This course will explore historically significant marketing campaigns and strategies, from classic traditional marketing to global change effected by marketing strategies. We will begin with diamonds, and proceed to examine topics like algorithms and social media and how these tools affect each one of us. As we tour the marketing landscape, we will consider not only the impacts on society, but also investigate ways we can harness the marketing strategies, and perhaps defend against them.
Why Should I Take This Course?
In Diamonds to Algorithms, you will learn what is going on in the world from a marketing standpoint and develop skills to both use this understanding and consider addressing the impact of these forces.
So, if you want to know more about these topics, this course is for you:
- Why people do “strange” things.
- How social media is designed to get us to do things.
- Does advertising work?
- What can I do to thrive in this environment?
