The second Anna Bui World of Hope Fundraiser raised more than $50,000 to help give more University of Washington Bothell students the opportunity to study abroad.

After only two years, the scholarship endowment has collected more than $100,000, said Sean Marsh, assistant vice chancellor for alumni engagement and philanthropy.

The Aug. 2 event at the Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo, emceed by KING 5 anchor Mark Wright, raised money in memory of Anna Bui, a UW Bothell student who had traveled in Europe before she was killed in July 2016 in a shooting in Mukilteo that also took the lives of two friends.

Her sister and brother, Anny and David Bui, started the endowment fund in 2017. It will provide financial support to eligible students for study abroad or other global experience they otherwise would be unable to afford. The scholarship favors students interested in a career in health care. Anna Bui was working toward a degree in nursing.

Friends of the Bui family and the Mukilteo community turned out for the fundraiser, which featured Vietnamese food, a wine tasting and donated gifts, including Seahawks and Mariners tickets.
