Alumni weekend’s run and fun

Husky 5K runners

The University of Washington Bothell’s Alumni Weekend proved alumni love to give back, and they love a good time.

Significantly more people took part this year in the two main events – the 12th annual Husky 5K in the morning and the third annual Bothell Block Party and BrewFest in the afternoon. Once again, alumni enjoyed a perfect spring day on May 20.

About 800 runners bounded over the 5K course through and around campus, with a total of about 1,300 people involved, including friends, alumni and sponsors. That’s up from the 600 runners and 1,000 people on campus for last year’s run.

The 5K raised $17,000 for student scholarships, up from $14,000 last year. To date the UW Bothell Alumni Endowment Scholarship has raised more than $160,000.

And, the crowd for this year’s Bothell Block Party and Brewfest more than doubled to 2,500 from last year’s 1,200. Hosted in partnership with the Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce, the block party welcomed members of the public along with alumni. Together they sampled beer from more than a dozen local breweries, enjoyed delicious fare from food trucks and listened to live music from some of the most popular bands in Seattle: Tacocat, Duke Evers, Chastity Belt and Gypsy Temple.
