Dr. Jed Murr, associate teaching professor in IAS, was scheduled to travel to Slovenia this winter, but the Fulbright was deferred to the 2021-22 academic year because of the pandemic. He will teach American ethnic literatures at the University of Ljubljana. And at the World of Art, School for Curatorial Practices and Critical Writing (a program of the Center for Contemporary Arts), he will lead a seminar on contemporary Black expressive cultures in the United States.

In the fall and spring semesters, he will be at the University of Tokyo, Aoyama Gakuin University and Kanda University of International Studies. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime. I am proud to represent UW Bothell in Japan,” Goldstein said.

Information about the prestigious Fulbright program is available through UW Bothell’s Office of Global Initiatives. Director Natalia Dyba offers information sessions and individual consultations to faculty, staff, students and alumni interesting in applying.

“Fulbright grants are an opportunity to expand on existing international connections or foster new ties with colleagues in a different part of the world,” Dyba said. “While the traditional Fulbright scholar experience lasts at least a semester, there has been an increase in more flexible awards that allow time abroad to be split into two or three shorter stints, making the Fulbright experience accessible to more people.”

The application deadline for 2022-23 Fulbright scholar awards is Sept. 15, 2021.
